Distant Memories was released exactly one year after the bands debut album, with only Desire being released as a single beforehand.

This album was meant to expand Arandems musical horizon. While The Great Betrayal and Desire became the bands heaviest songs at the time, while Merchant and Wolf as well as Ride Until We Die did the exact opposite and toned it down a fair bit to show just how versatile Arandem could be.

Although the majority of songs was still written by Rane, there was a lot more collaboration during the writing of this album.

A Heros Rise for example was based on a handful of riffs that Nico had written while Merchand and Wolf was the bands first attempt to write a song together.
